Currently, I know I keep going around a common theme, that of how to better one’s self, not even that, but gain more of what you want in life, your life. My reason for this is for the first time in a long time we are all spending more time with ourselves as I am too. I have a good sense of self and know how to look after my well-being and how important it is. However, I don’t always give myself the time to just be. And, allow me the time to work on me. Over the past 2 months, I have appreciated greatly the time I am spending focusing on me, but also how I enjoy being busy, which I now refer to as being productive and doing what I can to support others. It doesn’t drain me but gives me more energy and a purpose!
So what has this got to do with the law of attraction and where do letters to my future self fit in?
“The great secret of life is the law of attraction that says, like attracts like, so when you think a thought, you are also attracting like thoughts to you.” (Rhonda Byrne). Simply put, what you put out from your mind and what you focus on, you have the power to attract into your life. Rhonda Byrne is the author of ‘The Secret’ and many other books that are focused on the law of attraction. Some of what she writes about, I don’t believe in and that is okay, as we all have different opinions and perceptions of how things are and can be. I do believe that if you believe in something and if you want you can achieve it. Visualise yourself achieving it, then nothing will stop you, which in itself is the law of attraction.
I am sure you have heard the saying “believe in yourself” and this is about taking away the doubts that you are focusing on and focusing on achieving what you want to achieve. Which is in itself the law of attraction. So we have heard of it before and probably used it also. It helps us change our mindset and focus on the positive and not the negative. Even certain words we use can hinder how we look at something or achieve something. When I studied Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), one of the first things we were taught about was the power of words. For example, the word ‘try’ can make you more relaxed about your attempt to achieve something, as if you don’t succeed the way you want, it is okay because you tried.
I want you to take a moment to think of some of the words you use when talking about yourself and see if any of them can be changed to more positive ones. I also want you to write down something you have wanted to achieve and what is stopping you achieve it? Is there any other way you could achieve it or something similar? Or, is it your thoughts preventing you from focusing on it?
Steps to achieving what you want through the law of attraction;
- Have fun while implementing the law, but also with what you wish to achieve
- Know the reason why you are wanting to achieve this and what you will positively gain from it
- Spend time to set your intention and developing it
- Visualise it, if you need help with this, create a vision board, see one of my earlier posts on this also, https://livingeachmoment.com/vision-boards/
- Have awareness of what may happen while you achieve your goal and what it might look like after you achieve it
- Have the right attitude, if you don’t wholeheartedly believe in your goal or it happening, then it won’t work
- Believe in yourself and your goal
- Be positive and focus on getting what you want
- Learn to let go of whatever has prevented you from getting where you have wanted to be/go before
- Believe that it is already happening
Which leads me into Letters to Your Future Self. I received a book from a friend last year by Lea Redmond, that is called “Letters to Your Future Self”. It gives you one page that is broken up to add notes for each day and on the other page a question and a different part of you to write to. For example, ‘To The Me I Am Becoming’, ‘I promise to myself…..’. So, at the end of the year, you have a time capsule of your year and what you wanted to achieve. I also have a 4-year journal that asks you a different question each day of the year, but the same question on the same date. I love the idea of being able to easily look back and see if your thoughts have changed and if what you thought on a given day has influenced where you are now.
This got me thinking about the law of attraction and writing a letter to yourself, you can pick how long away it is to be for depending on your goals you want to set for yourself. If you have a short term goal, it could be a letter to yourself in 3 months time or a longer-term goal in a year’s time. Now, how advanced and amazing technology is you can do it as an email to yourself and schedule it to deliver on that date. Your letter is to be as if you have achieved this goal. For instance, at the moment I am learning German, I have set myself a task of within three months I will be able to hold a basic conversation in German with someone else. My letter to myself can be in German or it could be telling me about how amazing it is to have eventually achieved my goal and what I am doing with my achievement, like planning a holiday around Germany to speak with locals. Your letter will be personal to you. For another booster when you sit down to write your letter, set yourself little tasks along the way and send out little positive messages to yourself to keep you going it can be in the form of a letter, email or reminders on your phone. If you decided to do the letter aspect, make sure you store it in a sealed envelope and put the future date on it.
While reading “My letters to my Future Self”, I will be honest I started it, did the first week and forgot about it again. But, as I started to write this post, I had a look back at what I wrote.
The first entry was; I promise to myself……..
- That I will take the good with the bad. I will learn to smile through the pain and know that life is about balance.
- To love myself more, and to think more about what I really need and value.
- To believe in myself, deep down I know my qualities that other people see, now I need to start believing in myself.
While I still have some way to go with what I had said. I have come a long way also with my promise to myself. I was going through a difficult time in a relationship at the time, and since then I have learned to put self-love first and value who I am. I also set up this website to tell people my thoughts and ideas that I believe in. Denise from 12 months ago would have never considered doing this, but here I am and really loving it. It is giving me power and energy to want to do even more. I believe some of this was my letter to my future self and putting it out there, that I do believe in what I do and myself. So, what else can you and I achieve?
